MY OWN WEBSITE

The website project wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. Maybe because my teacher did all of the coding for us and we just had to fill in the blanks. During my time at NCCC, I made a website from scratch, placing the codes and links myself and I remember that giving me a headache. Making a website is a lot of work and it takes time and patience. In my opinion, building a house would probably be easier and less stressful.

When I saw the example website that was presented in class, I began to think of a layout I wanted to do. I wanted something that would represent a style of an educated gentleman. I knew I wanted my picture in the middle of my page of off to the left side of the page. I wanted something different than what people usually do. I wanted to stand out. Standing out and doing something different can make people who visits my page, remember my page. I wanted to make my profile picture stand to the left of the page. Normally most people have their profile picture to the right of the page. I just wanted to be different than everybody else. There is nothing wrong with that. I begin to think of cover pictures that I would want to upload and a profile picture. I knew that both pictures needed to be as professional as possible and something that strongly represents me. I immediately thought of a black and white photo I recently took of myself in a suit with a “fashionable” tie. For my cover picture, I chose a picture of myself looking off to the sunset.

Putting a biography lets the web visitors know a little more bit about myself and about my career goals. I just talked about my birth place, my parents, my hometown, and my future plans. I included my educational history (high school and college graduation dates). This could be helpful for any job that would be interested in hiring me just because I took a class or interned somewhere.  Also included on my website is a link for my blog site. Having this can let companies see that I have the ability to create and write a blog and also see that I know how to link websites from one internet page to another. It would have been helpful to have professional social media sites such as Linkin, Facebook and Twitter (considering that is one of the major ways people get their news). That is something that I can work on in the future. Adding those sites is a way that different people can take a deeper look at my scholar work.

This website could be used as newer version of a portfolio. The website had my contact information, which was at the bottom on every web page and on the contact page. The contact information included my email address, phone number, and my social media sites (with links to the only one I had available). The website also included projects that I have did in this class and others. This shows off the work that I can do. I uploaded my resume, posters, and a brochure I created. These images were saved in a .jpg format and in a .pdf format. When I uploaded these images, many of the images were set at weird unusual sizes. Just like indesign and illustrator, holding the shift key and dragging the edge of the picture will move the image size. OR you could go onto the code side of the page and change the size the width and height by entering the correct size that may suit the size of the image. I found this easier than readjusting the image size manually. Another thing I came across while uploading images is that I could add a table (to add images) and delete tables (when I didn’t have any images to add). When uploading these images, you do need to back them up twice to the file that you placed then under. And if you want to have your pictures come up as PDF format once in the web browser, then you need to back it up for the third time.

Now that I made my own website, I can use this as a portfolio to have people view my work and my education history. Since my teacher made this project easy in a way (since all I had to do was just copy and paste links in) I do believe that if I had the website pre-done for me, I can change things up and make it the way I want it to be .

#StopPoliceBrutality

Police Brutality has been such a huge topic in today’s news. With cellphones and recording devices being more accessible than in earlier years, there are more and more recordings of officers violating their authority. Are police officers going to far or are they doing their jobs? Are we being dramatic or are officers need to be controlled? Should officers be charged with murder or should they just get suspended?

Police Brutality has been in exists since the early 19th Century (The Industrial Revolution).  Police Brutality is viewed as a serious offense and is investigated by district attorneys. Police Brutality is defined as the use of any force exceeding that reasonably necessary to accomplish a lawful police purpose. Police Brutality doesn’t just mean physical “excessive force.” An officer can use “excessive force” by using weapons (pepper spray, nerve gas, batons and more importantly guns) to scare or harm people. There have been many cases where police officers use their weapon to intimidate people and it turned deadly. Making a false arrest, be verbally and physically abusive, and corrupt any form of evidence are also examples of police brutality. Many police brutality cases are ignored or tossed to the side considering most of the times police are covering for their federal brothers or sisters. However with many incidents being recorded and making headlines, it’s very hard to ignore such strong accusations.

Since the beginning of the year, there have been 353 cases in the United States involving cases with police brutality. January had 95 cases (the most) and September having 3 (the least). The number of cases, so far, is least compared to last years (623 Cases) and in 2012 (602 cases). Below are 5 cases that happened within the last year.

1.     March 16, 2014: (New Mexico) A homeless man, James Boyd, was holding 2 knives and was in a stand off with officers. James was shot in the back with being 10 feet away and was continued to be shot at once on the ground. The two officers who was involved are going to trial for 2nd murder.
2.     September 14, 2014: (Missouri) An officer deliberately dropped a 17-year-old, Bryce Masters, to the ground. Bryce went into cardiac arrest and went into a induced coma. The officer pleaded guilty to violating the constitutional rights of a minor.
3.     December 6, 2014:  (Colorado) An officer punched a robber who was holding a cell phone. The officer was fired and pleaded guilty to attempted assault in June 2015 and was sentenced to one year probation.
4.     January 28, 2015: (Michigan) Floyd Dent was pulled from his car and beaten by Officer William Melendez and other officers. The officer were accusing Floyd of having possession of cocaine but was later proved innocent. The footage was captured by a bystander and the tape was investigated. Officer William was fired and charge with misconduct while in office, assult with intent to do great bodily harm and assault by strangulation. He is scheduled to go to trial in October 2015. The other officers involved were fired.
5.     April 4 2015: Police Officer Michael Slager shot a man fleeing from a traffic stop, Walter Scott. Michael shot Walter 5 times. Michael was charged with murder.

10 adjectives I would use describing this topic:
  1. Angry
  2. Cruel
  3. Sad
  4. Selfish
  5. Pride
  6. Hurt
  7. Fight
  8. Violence
  9. Destruction
  10. Injustice

For this poster I want to make a bold statement. A poster that will do the following 3 things:
  • Stand out if I was holding it in a crowd.
  • Piss off Police Officers if they see it.
  • Have an impact on how police treat us citizens.
I have two ideas for this assignment. My first idea is I want would want a poster with an all black background. The reason why is because I want my text to be nice and clear to read. I want my text to say FUCK THE POLICE. This saying is taken from the song 8 Ball by N.W.A. This 90’s rap group was known for their notorious lyrics and for their strong lyrics against the police. In the verse, which is famously known, “Take it in a bottle 40, quart or can. Drink it like a madman, yes I do. Fuck the police and a 502.” 502 is code for police officers for drunk driving. Since “FUCK THE POLICE” is extremely vulgar. I would use handcuffs and make the cuffs look like the “U” and “C” in fuck. I would have all the letters in caps and the largest text size. I want the text to take up most of the picture. I would use the chalkboard duster as the text character.

My second idea for this poster, I would use a plain white poster. I would have my text very dark so it looks nice and crisp. I would write all 353 names of the victims involved in the year’s cases with police brutality. The name would be very small and in a font that will be easy to read. I was thinking maybe Franklin Gothic Heavy. I want the names to make a picture of a face of a victim that is nationwide recognized (such as Trayvon Martin, Freedie Grey, Oscar Grey). I got this idea from TLC’s Fan Mail album. The group wrote all of their fans name and the name made a picture of TLC.

Successful Logos

Skinny Girl
This logo shows what the title implies, a skinny girl. This cocktail logo shows a girl in a cocktail attire, drinking. This logo works for this company because of the heart healthy ingredients that are included in every product.

Batman v Superman

The Batman and Superman logo is a strong logo. Both super heroes are iconic and with both logos combined, it equals a powerful dynamic. Both logos are easily identified to which character they go with without any picture of the character or names being included. Catch my drift?

Queen Latifah
This logo of the "Q" shows that this person must be widely known, for a person just to put a letter as their logo. Also the gold goes well with the logo, since gold is of royalty.

BET Network

This logo is an acronym for Black Entertainment Television. That is why all letters are uppercase. I assume that the star is included with logo to give it a reference that music, or celebrities are a main focus with this logo.

The Mr.

My own logo shows a person, that is suppose to represent Mr. Marcus White, standing in a suit smiling. I wanted to refreshen the name "MR" and make it mean a person who is a gentleman and has proper etiquette.

MY OWN LOGO

As shown above, my logo is "MR." It is suppose to be myself representing an educated gentleman with style, class and proper etiquette. I want my own brand of moscato named FORTUNATO MOSCATO. I want people to know that drinking my wine is fun and make them into a sociable person. I want my MR color to be a gold, champaign color. I want to catch the eyes of anyone who loves moscato or any other kind of sweet wine.
